Our Thanksgiving

I hope you enjoy this post. We went to Memphis again this year for Thanksgiving. We had a really fun week. This is excluding the various illnesses from half of the family.
I really hope you get all the way through this post. It is fun. There is a really cool video in the middle that you won't want to pass up.
I also want to send a thanks to my friends who took care of our puppy while we were gone. You are really wonderful to help us out.

The kids were full of ideas for projects. Baby boy made a banjo and and a drum. Baby girl made Thanksgiving menus and the family tree. She had each of us draw our own pictures.

While in Memphis we went to the Enchanted Forest and sat with Santa

Thanksgiving day leisure and cuddles.

Bana helped put together a Gingerbread Santa sleigh project.

We went to the children's museum with our friends Pat and David. We all had a wonderful time. If you don't watch this video then it is your loss. Turn up the volume and get groovy.

Some other fun times.

Our day

The house is clean so Baby boy and I went out for a special lunch just the two of us. Then we bought stuff to make dinner and cookies.

Baby girl was happy when I picked her up from school. Apparently the "Desk Fairy" visited her desk at school. She was rewarded with a ring for her tidy workspace. The desk fairy leaves a special note and a small token of her appreciation. (I think my teachers could have used the desk fairy on me. She never visited me because mine was always a mess.)

She started talking about the desk fairy on the way home. She decided that the desk fairy was kin to the Tooth fairy and Tinkerbell. She thought she was the twin or the older sister to the Tooth fairy and just a relative of Tinkerbell.

All this means at least one more year of Santa!

Riddle

What do two sweet tarts and a broken sock hanger make?

They make a little boy cry when his mean mother takes them away. He was supposed to be asleep but instead he was playing hockey with them.

How was your day?

This photograph is from the 1940's

We try to sit down as a family to dinner every night. We do this to stay in touch. The kids love to pray so they take turns.

We have started a new tradition for our family. While we eat we share our day. We first list the worst part of our day. We go into detail on how we were wronged.

Then we talk about the best part of our day.

Lastly we each share how something that we thought was bad turned out to be good.

The point of this is to keep us sharing our lives. It is also to teach the children that all bad things have a good side. There is always a lesson to be learned.

We share our joys and pains as a family not as individuals. The kids won't let us miss a day. They can't wait for this time at dinner.

I pray this is a tradition that lasts.

I have been waiting for the bead to drop!

Does this face look like he would ever be Baby Boy the Menace?

We sat down to dinner tonight. He said that he had something in his nose. I told him to go to the bathroom and get a tissue. He then came out crying saying something was stuck.

He came up to me with the tissue. It wasn't the usual nose junk. It was a big bead!!! He had stuffed it up there and couldn't get it out.

I pulled at it but the bead took all the available space in his tiny nostril. He was screaming and I was pulling until it shot out of there like a bullet.

He then promised to never stuff any thing into his nose, ears, mouth, or any other possible holes in his body.

Ramblings

First I want to wish everyone a happy veterans day. Thanks to everyone that has served our country. This includes Granddad Jordan, Granddad Ritchie, Hector, and Chad from our family.

Second, my sister had her birthday last Friday. Here is a picture of us together on Sunday.

here is baby girl, baby boy's profile, and my sisters baby girl

Baby girl has been reading like crazy. She has known how to read really well all along. She was faking us out.

I found this out because she was reading her birthday cards. She seemed to read those without a problem. I set her up an email account because that was the closest thing to a card I could think of. She is reading words without having to sound out. They are difficult words. Now we are going to have to work on spelling.

Baby boy got his school pictures back. They were great. I will scan them if our scanner starts working again. It is temperamental.

He is starting to learn how to sound out words. He was able to figure out how to spell dog from the sounds.

You know you are a mom when...

Picture this.

We are sitting around the table. Baby boy is pleased with himself because he picked out dinner. We are having a Caesar Salad with skinless rotisserie chicken. Our side dish is watermelon.

Baby girl is pouting because daddy set the table too quickly. She wanted to set the table by herself.

Baby boy decides he is done with his special dinner. I noticed he only ate one bite of his watermelon.

I get a bright idea. I say, "This is my watermelon and you can't have any." He reaches over and takes a huge bite. (giggling ensues)

"What are you doing that is mine!" I say as I laugh. He takes another huge bite. This goes back and forth until there is one bite.

He says, "I don't want anymore. You can have it. " I say, "Just one more bite." He says no.

Then he coughs. I said, "Are you okay? Are you choking?"

He says, "No mommy."

Then be throws up all over the table. (this is the part where I know I am a mommy) I reach out and put my hand in the middle of the throw up to keep it from rolling onto the floor and carpet. He throws up 3 more times. I it is going all over me but my goal is to protect the carpet.

He was fine a minute later.
